Residents on Allott Avenue, organized a neighborhood watch program for LAPD Area 966. They got together and cleaned up the  graffiti, created the Safe House program ( which offers a safe place to go for anyone that finds themselves in a threatening situation) and got a traffic light for Erwin and Fulton after a pedestrian wa hit at the intersection. 

These same residents started The Valley Glen Homeowners Association for this area in 1996 and  changed the name from Van Nuys/North Hollywood to Valley Glen.

Valley Glen is part of the   Los Angeles Unified School District.
Elementary Schools are: Monlux, Erwin Street, Coldwater Canyon Avenue, Kitteridge Street and Hazeltine Avenue. Scores on the 2007 Academic Performance Index ranged from 680 to 790 out of a possible 1,000. The middle school for Valley Glen children, Madison, scored 648 and Grant Senior High scored a sad 625.
