There are two picturesque lakes - the one on the North Hollywood side the other in Burbank. The water for these lakes originally came from springs from the outcropping of the Valley´s water table. Today, water is supplied from wells at the edge of the lakes to maintain the lake level. To stop water seepage the bottom of the lake was surfaced with four inches of asphalt.

The original boundaries of Toluca Lake were Cahuenga Boulevard, Clybourn Avenue, Camarillo Street and the Los Angeles River. In 1939 these boundries were included in the incorporation papers of the Toluca Lake Civic Association. Since then, other adjacent streets and areas have been included and are now associated with the Toluca Lake area.

The Lake is owned by the home owners surrounding it. To maintain and keep it clean, the Toluca Lake Property Owners Association was organized in 1934. 

A home on Toluca Lake is much sought after and pricey - around 7 million dollars -and is probably one of the best locations in all of Los Angeles. The lake covers about six acres and is stocked with fish for the fisherman, the lake also allows private recreational boating and swimming. Don't go running to spend an afternoon picnicking with the family on the Lake unless you happen to be friends with one of the homeowners because the lake is even imppossible to see past the rolling green lawns of the private residents and the Lakeside Golf Club.
